The Wegovy pill in the UK

The Wegovy pill is the tablet form of oral semaglutide for weight management. It was approved by the MHRA on 11 June 2026 and is now available through private UK providers, giving the UK its first GLP-1 weight-loss tablet route.

Wegovy pill doses

The licensed product follows a four-stage ladder:

• 1.5mg as the starting dose
• 4mg as the second step
• 9mg as the third step
• 25mg as the maintenance dose

The supplied patient leaflet and the prescriber’s instructions set out how the stages are used. Do not convert an injection dose into a tablet dose, copy another person’s schedule or change a prescribed dose without advice.

Administration and daily routine

Pill vs injection

The Wegovy pill and Wegovy injection are part of the same brand, but they are not interchangeable dose-for-dose. The tablet ladder is completely separate from the injection ladder, and the practical experience is different too.

• The pill is daily and has a fasting rule.
• The injection is weekly and does not need the same food timing.
• Both are prescription-only and depend on a clinical assessment.

Who can get it?

The Wegovy pill is prescription-only. Private providers assess BMI and other health factors before prescribing, and the prescriber decides whether it is suitable. Many weight-management routes start around BMI 30, or 27 with a related condition, but the provider’s own clinical process is what counts for any individual request.

The route, pricing picture and market status are useful starting points, but a prescription still depends on an individual consultation.

The Wegovy pill is the weight-management oral semaglutide route. Rybelsus is a different oral semaglutide product used for type 2 diabetes. Ozempic is an injection for diabetes.
