What the official product information says
Orlistat’s UK prescribing information does not list Mounjaro (tirzepatide), Wegovy or Ozempic (semaglutide) among its documented drug interactions. The two work in completely different ways: orlistat blocks some dietary fat from being absorbed in the gut, acting locally and barely entering the bloodstream, while GLP-1/GIP medicines work systemically on appetite and digestion. There’s no known pharmacokinetic interaction between them.
What’s genuinely worth considering
- Combined gastrointestinal side effects. Orlistat commonly causes oily stools, urgency and gas, particularly after fatty meals. GLP-1/GIP medicines commonly cause nausea and slowed digestion. Taking both together can mean a heavier combined burden of GI symptoms, even without a drug interaction as such.
- Less need for orlistat’s mechanism. If you’re already eating smaller portions and less fat because of a GLP-1/GIP medicine’s appetite-reducing effect, orlistat’s fat-blocking action has less to work on, some people find the two feel redundant rather than complementary.
- Fat-soluble vitamins. Orlistat can reduce absorption of vitamins A, D, E and K on its own; this doesn’t change with a GLP-1/GIP medicine added, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you’re eating less overall.
