Wegovy tablets have specific food and drink instructions because the timing affects absorption. The official UK patient leaflet says the tablet should be taken after at least eight hours of fasting, swallowed whole with a sip of water of up to 120mL, then followed by at least 30 minutes before food, other drinks or oral medicines.
Use the leaflet supplied with the medicine
The instructions apply to the Wegovy tablet route and are part of the medicine’s approved administration information. Do not split, crush or chew the tablet. The leaflet says that taking food, drink or oral medicines too soon after it can reduce semaglutide absorption.
Use the packaging leaflet and the prescribing service’s directions as the controlling information, particularly if instructions change or another health professional has given advice for your circumstances.

Other oral medicines
Because the leaflet includes timing around other oral medicines, it is important to ask a pharmacist or prescriber how the Wegovy tablet routine should fit with existing prescriptions. Do not move, skip or alter another prescribed medicine without advice.
The leaflet also asks patients to tell the prescriber about all medicines they take. This is especially relevant for people who use medicines that need monitoring or have their own timing requirements.
If the routine is difficult
Contact the prescribing service or pharmacist if fasting, the wait before food, or the timing of another oral medicine is difficult to manage. They can give advice based on the prescription and the rest of the medicine list. A comparison site cannot safely personalise that timetable.
